Essential

  • Documented process whereby hazards are identified and recorded, they are then either isolated, minimised or eliminated
  • Documented process for recording and investigating employee accidents not causing serious harm and those causing serious harm. (OSH Blue Book)
  • Documented process for recording customer accidents that require first aid
  • Documented process for recording pool rescues

Desirable

  • A record is kept of all customer accidents requiring further medical attention
 

Operation of a follow-up and review process

Essential

  • That there is some documented or verbal evidence that the information gathered from the above reporting procedures is scrutinised and used to make changes (if necessary) designed to improve safety

Desirable

  • This review process is carried out monthly

Visual confirmation and staff questioning

Essential

  • A visual check of records and interview with the poolside staff to confirm that the specified recording and review processes do operate effectively (i.e. that staff know what to report and when to report it).

It is not designed to fulfil legislative or contractual obligations under the HSE Act or OSH.
It is a few fundamental pointers to assist the pool manager in providing a safe environment for employees and customers.
